Learn More About Each Day Below

Day 1:

Day 1 of the Analytical Alberta Symposium starts off with a focus on liquid and gas chromatography technologies, including PerkinElmer’s QSight LC Triple Quad and strategies for handling challenging matrices with LC-MS/MS. Attendees will gain valuable knowledge from troubleshooting sessions on LC, GC, and MS systems, along with an in-depth look at vacuum ultraviolet spectroscopy in HPLC. The day will conclude with insights into simulated distillation and sample analysis techniques like headspace and thermal desorption.

Day 2:

Day 2 of the Analytical Alberta Symposium goes in-depth into the world of gas chromatography, with expert-led sessions on selecting optimal GC detectors, analyzing hydrogen purity for fuel cells, and enhancing column performance. Day 2 include a featured presentation by Rafal Gieleciak of the National Research Council on hydrocarbon characterization using GC-VUV, as well as sessions on front-end crude oil analysis and biofuels research with guest speaker Bernardo Araujo Souto from the University of Alberta. The afternoon continues with discussions on method development, LPG analysis, and detecting corrosive gases in pipeline products.

Day 3:

Day 3 of the Analytical Alberta Symposium centers on advanced analytical techniques in petroleum and materials science, beginning with an approach to monitoring in-service oil lubricants and a comprehensive look into petroleum product analysis using the NexION 2200 ICP-MS. Attendees will gain tips in atomic spectroscopy and explore the power of hyphenated instruments for deeper insights. The day features guest speakers Dave Murray, discussing refinery deposit characterization using TGA-FTIR-GCMS, and Dr. TriDung (TD) Ngo, presenting on thermal and mechanical material analysis. Our final day concludes with a session on IR microscopy for microplastics.
